Pierre D.Delmas,M.D.,Ph.D.
is Professor of Medicine and Rheumatology at the University
Claude Bernard of Lyon, France. He is director of the
INSERM Research Uni 403 on Pathophysiology of Osteoporosis
at the Hopital Edouard Herriot of Lyon. INSERM is the French
National Institute for Medical Research. Professor Delmas
and and his research group have developed new markers of bone
metabolism, such as osteocalcin and pyridinoline crosslinks
that have been shown to be useful in the clinical investigation
of osteoporisis. He directs basic and clinical research programs
in the field of metabolic bone diseases with a special interest
for osteoporisis and metastatic bone disease. As a rheumatologist,
he is also conducting research activities in osteoarthritis
and non steroidal anti inflammatory agents. He has authored
more than 400 articles and book chapters in international
spientific journals. He is the Associate Editor of the journals
Osteoporosis International, and Bone. As the President
of the board of the International Osteoporosis Foundation
Professor Delmas has been actively involved in the development
of educational programs on osteoporosis.
